Height’s Programme Manager Beaufa Brown has been named as a finalist in the Amotai Supplier Diversity Awards for Advocate of the Year.
The inaugural awards – run by Amotai – Supplier Diversity New Zealand – shine a light on the people and initiatives that demonstrate excellence in the supplier diversity movement across Aotearoa.
Since July 2022 Beaufa has managed Hāpaitia Ngā Pakihi - Height's Capability Uplift Programme - that we have run on behalf of Te Puni Kōkiri. This has seen Beaufa help more than 120 Māori businesses pursue tendering and contracting opportunities in the Government supply chain. He’s also working to support Pacific businesses, in partnership with the Pacific Business Trust.
Beaufa says it’s an awesome feeling to be nominated for these important awards.
“I love helping people and seeing them succeed. Being recognised for that is being recognised for doing my job, and it’s an absolute privilege to do this mahi,” he says.
Beaufa is up against two other finalists from the large engineering consultancy Beca and from Waikato Tainui.
Two Māori businesses that Height supported through the Capability Uplift Programme have also been nominated for the awards in the Supplier of the Year category, including Stronghold Group and ARC Asbestos and Demolition. The awards night will take place in Auckland on 21 August.
About Hāpaitia Ngā Pakihi - Height's Capability Uplift Programme
The programme is all about building a sustainable, diverse supply chain. It responds to the challenges experienced for both suppliers and buying agencies in Aotearoa.
The complexity of the government procurement process and required compliance can be intimidating for new suppliers. This means that it can be challenging for buying agencies to meet mandatory supplier diversity and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets, and attract new businesses to tender or work with the government and corporations
The Capability Uplift Programme was designed to support Māori, Pasifika, and non-traditional government suppliers to navigate the New Zealand government procurement process and develop competency to build a genuinely sustainable pool of diverse suppliers.
The programme has multiple options, from bespoke one-to-one support to wider group learning opportunities. The core learning outcomes across all our options are focused on: demystifying the procurement process; assisting businesses in identifying their unique value propositions moving from a cost-based to a value-based approach; developing robust tender and proposal responses that meet compliance requirements; and establishing sustainable pricing strategies and managing commercial risks effectively.
